Court in Action: Devon and Cornwall
A court awareness project for young people in Devon and Cornwall
A court awareness project by Young Citizens available to all secondary schools in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The project aims to equip young people (aged 11-16) with:
- An understanding of how the criminal justice system works.
- An opportunity to learn about career opportunities within the criminal justice system, what it’s like to work with victims and witnesses, what a role of a barrister entails, and what it’s like to be a judge.
- Insight into the consequences of crime, including how it impacts on life choices, what a criminal conviction will mean for a person’s future opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does my Court in Action toolkit contain?
Your Court in Action toolkit provides everything that you need to deliver high-quality court education work with your students aged 11- 16. The toolkit contains guidance for teachers, classroom resources, information on court visits and further sources of information and support.
NB: We will be adding to and updating the toolkit throughout the academic year 2022-2023 so please make sure to keep checking back in.
How long do I have access to the toolkit?
You will have access to the Court in Action toolkit up until the end of May 2023, when the pilot project finishes. We very much hope that the project will be extended, in which case, we will automatically extend your access to the toolkit.
I have more than one teacher in my school who wants access to the Court in Action toolkit. Is that possible?
Of course! We are keen for each teacher involved in delivering the project to be able to access the resources directly. We do ask that you coordinate with each other around applications for court visits and delivery.
Is there support available beyond the toolkit?
Yes - please do get in contact with us at [email protected] if you would like any help or advice. Our project coordinator is there to support you.
